Sometimes, our fears of speaking our thoughts out loud prevent us from trying, much less, doing what we’ve wanted to do. Sometimes, all it takes to initiate a positive social change is to voice out our opinions.

If you have something to say to kids in your school or maybe the people in your neighborhood then go ahead and do so! Today’s technology has made communication easy and convenient. You can write what you want to say in your blog or in any other online medium. You can also write an article and submit it to your local paper.

If you’re worried about your writing skills, don’t be. In the end, it’s the content that ultimately matters. If you write with all your heart then it’s sure to come out good. But then again, you can also ask help from loved ones and have them critique your work before you start sharing them with others.

Start with the Family

Families are not the basic core of society for nothing. If you want your actions to have impact on your community then start by making the necessary changes within your family.

Let’s say you’re concerned about environmental issues. One excellent way to start practicing what you preach is by surrounding your home with potted plants. While not everyone may have the necessary space to have their own gardens, surely all of us live in a place with at least one window? That’s the perfect place to start your indoor garden!

Having potted plants is not just good for decoration, but they also increase the amount of oxygen in the air while limiting the presence of carbon dioxide. Just imagine what can happen if you convince your family about the rightness of this decision. Your younger siblings can share it with other kids at their school. Your parents can start having potted plants in their respective offices as well, and who knows who they can influence next?

Blood ties are thicker than water so don’t underestimate them. Try explaining your well-meaning reasons behind your proposed action and your family is sure to understand and support you all the way!

Join an Organization

The importance of cooperation and harmony can’t be stressed enough. One man can make a huge change in the world, but only if he has the cooperation of the people around him. If you feel that your lone voice isn’t enough to be heard then maybe it really isn’t and it’s time to ask for help.

Join an organization. Look for an organization that mirrors your interests. If there’s none then form one. Three people asking for the same thing is more noticeable than the demands of a single person. Having an organization to represent your advocacy also helps in making yourself identifiable. A group name or even a logo makes it easier for people to recall what you stand for. It certainly beats having to remember other people’s names and faces!

If you are joining or forming an organization to support the changes you wish to make in your community, it’s important to create a mission-vision statement for your community. This will give your organization a direction, serving as a guide and reminding you if you’re doing something that takes you out of your designated path.

Pray or Meditate

Never underestimate the power of prayers. If you’re not spiritual then try spending your time on meditating instead. Prayers and meditation basically have the same requirements and goals. It demands a person to look and empower himself from within. It helps a person achieve the level of mental clarity and inner contentment necessary for achieving important goals in lives.

Prayers and meditation also strengthen your positive outlook on life. They are, in fact, excellent tools to use if you believe in the laws of attraction. Like attracts like while negative vibes make undesirable things happen.

If you want to make an impact, pray or meditate until you believe that you are fully capable of making an impact…and it will be so.
